Relative grading places a student’s course score in the context of the whole class performance. For a course, the mean score and standard deviation are calculated, and grade bands are formed around them. The exact bands and hard cut-offs are defined in the Exam Process Manual.

Relative grading is used when 25 or more students appear in that course examination. If fewer than 25 students appear, the absolute grading table prescribed for the programme is used.

No. Relative grade bands operate together with hard minimum cut-offs. For UG and MCA theory heads, a combined score below 40% is a fail; for MBA and M.Tech theory heads, the minimum is 50%. The practical head requires at least 50%. Always consult the regulations for your programme and batch.

The grade-point sequence is: AA—10, AB—9, BA—8.25, BB—7.5, CA—6.75, CB—6 and CC—5. FF carries zero grade points, while ABS records absence and carries no grade point. SGPA and CGPA are calculated under the applicable institute ordinance.

The Grade Moderation Committee, comprising the Chairperson of the Board of Studies and the concerned course teachers, reviews the records and distribution, moderates the proposed grades where required and submits its signed report to the COE Office.

The examination process is planned so that results are declared within 15 days from the last examination. The published result remains subject to the prescribed verification and approval process.

Grace marks may be awarded only to pass an End Semester Examination head and only when they enable the candidate to pass the entire semester examination. The total grace across all subjects cannot exceed 0.5% of the semester’s total marks, subject to a maximum of three marks, and can be used in no more than three subjects.

Condonation applies when a candidate has passed every other head but remains deficient in only one head. That deficiency may be condoned up to 1% of the semester’s total marks, subject to a maximum of seven marks. Grace has a smaller overall limit and may cover up to three subjects; condonation is restricted to one failed head.

Yes. The manual provides for these rules in regular, re-examination and backlog examinations, provided every applicable condition is satisfied. They are applied during official result processing; they are not a separate student-requested reassessment.

A grace benefit is marked with a single asterisk (*) and the relevant rule number. Condonation is marked with a double asterisk (**) and the relevant rule number.

Yes, for an assessed ESE theory answer book. Submit a separate prescribed application and fee for each course to the COE Office within two days, inclusive, from the display of marks. Only one photocopy is issued per course and examination.

The Course Assessment Committee checks totaling, carry-forward of marks, and whether any attempted answer has remained unassessed. Any identified correction is reported through the prescribed process before the copy is issued.

A student may apply for revaluation of an ESE theory answer book, including a backlog examination, within three working days of result declaration. A maximum of three theory courses may be submitted in one semester, using the prescribed form and fee. Re-examination answer books are not eligible.

Revaluation is not available for practical or continuous assessment, dissertation, project, thesis or viva voce. It is also not available for a re-examination answer book.

• Up to 5% of the maximum ESE theory marks: the result is not changed.
• More than 5% and up to 20%: the reevaluated marks are accepted.
• More than 20% and up to 50%: the average of the original and reevaluated marks is used.
• More than 50%: a second reassessment is arranged and the average of the best two assessments is considered.

Yes. If dissatisfied after examining the photocopy, apply for revaluation within three working days, inclusive, using the prescribed procedure. Once revaluation is completed, a photocopy cannot then be requested. Students must not contact the original valuer or revaluer.

Yes. The result revised under the prescribed revaluation rules is binding on the student.

A re-examination is the follow-up ESE opportunity for a failed theory course in the current examination cycle and is scheduled within 15 days of result declaration. A backlog examination covers a failed or absent course from an earlier semester. Both require the prescribed application and fee within the dates announced by the COE Office.

Report the issue promptly to the COE Office with the relevant result and course details. The result may be amended for verified computer, data-entry, printing, programming, clerical, totaling or examiner-oversight errors through the prescribed approval process. Errors should be reported or detected within one month; later cases are referred to the Examination Committee.
